Bredal's Ostrich Leg Suede leather belts - what is the difference between suede and nubuck leather?
Sep 18, 2025
The leather for this 35 mm wide belt comes from South Africa. It is common to use the top side of the ostrich - where the feathers have been. The feathers are often used for brushes and similar items.
But this is the ostrich leg (the bone) where we have used the ankle at the front of the belt. The belts are edge-stitched and cut to the correct length for you.
Both suede and nubuck leather have a soft surface. Suede is made from the flesh side of the leather, has a soft surface, and is a bit softer than nubuck. Not as durable as nubuck.
Nubuck is made from the outer side of the leather which is sanded to a matte finish. It has a denser and firmer surface than suede. More durable and long-lasting.
